We still have a lot of work to do to take on the climate crisis
On this Earth Day, we can't just celebrate — we also need to be sounding the alarm. While we made historic investments in protecting the planet and reducing greenhouse gas emissions under President Biden, that progress is at risk. The fight for a liveable future is far from over.
We still have a LOT of work to do to continue to take on the climate crisis — and Trump and his Cabinet of fossil-fuel cronies are hellbent on taking us backward as fast as they can.
We need to end the world's addiction to fossil fuels. We are flooding the world with dangerous, planet-warming carbon dioxide and other gases from burning fossil fuels. Trump is making this problem worse day by day.
But fossil fuels aren't the only force harming the planet. We also need to take on plastic pollution with a bold, binding global plastics treaty. We are drowning in plastics that are littering our beaches, destroying our ecosystems, and poisoning human health.
We need action, and we need it now. And that's why I will always use every tool I have — from legislation to oversight to appropriations to speaking out — to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
So, on Earth Day, let's rededicate ourselves to a rapid and just transition to renewable energy and an end to the production of fossil fuels, to action on plastic pollution, and to educating America about the need to preserve our planet's precious biodiversity.
This Earth Day, here's how you can help: make choices that reflect the future you believe in. Plant a tree, pick up litter, and make a plan to use less plastic. But don't stop there. Join with others, organize, and push for bold change. A livable planet is within reach if we fight for it together.
Onward!
