Trump is trying to end birthright citizenship
On his first day in office, Donald Trump signed an executive order to end birthright citizenship guaranteed in the Constitution's 14th Amendment as part of his MAGA agenda. Birthright citizenship guarantees that children born in the United States are citizens, regardless of the immigration status of their parents.
His action violated the Constitution and has already been blocked by a Reagan-era federal judge. This is just one piece of his cruel and inhumane scheme to target vulnerable immigrant communities across the country.
I am glad Oregon is one of the many states suing to block President Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship. Our nation is largely made up of immigrants and the descendants of immigrants, and we need to support our neighbors who are afraid of their families being ripped apart.
Make no mistake: No president, including Trump, can overturn the Constitution with an executive order. But it won't stop him and his MAGA cronies from trying to do everything they can to decimate our constitutional rights.
The 14th Amendment is clear – birthright citizenship is the law of the land. We must ensure that our voices are heard in this fight to protect our rights because far-right extremists aren't giving up on trying to implement their ominous schemes.
Onward,
Jeff
