Save the Senate September
September is a big month during an election year. It's make or break for candidates as they start their final push to reach voters. That's why I'm kickstarting "Save the Senate September," my effort to highlight every single Senate election where Democrats can win and explain why I'm asking you to get involved with their campaigns.
Across the country, there are many challenging races we need to win to retake the House Majority, keep the Democratic Senate Majority, and hold on to the White House with Kamala Harris as our next President. I'm focused on winning those tough Senate seats in 2024.
To save the Senate from a total MAGA takeover, we need to win 8 out of 8 competitive Senate races this year, and with you on the team, we have a fighting chance. And we need to invest in the 2 tough pick-up opportunities, too.
There's no question that these 10 races are going to be difficult. In the 8 competitive races, we've got the red state of Montana, the deep purple states of Arizona and Ohio, and the swing states of Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. This year, we also have an unusually competitive race in Maryland. Our 2 pick-up opportunities in Florida and Texas are tough, but we've seen glimmers of the possible in each race, so let's take a leap of faith!
On our side, we have incredible Democratic incumbents and candidates running in these competitive races:
- Montana: Incumbent Senator Jon Tester
- Ohio: Incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown
- Nevada: Incumbent Senator Jacky Rosen
- Pennsylvania: Incumbent Senator Bob Casey
- Wisconsin: Incumbent Senator Tammy Baldwin
- Michigan: Democratic Nominee Elissa Slotkin
- Arizona: Democratic Nominee Ruben Gallego
- Maryland: Democratic Nominee Angela Alsobrooks
And we have great candidates running in our tougher potential pick-up opportunities:
- Texas: Democratic Nominee Colin Allred
- Florida: Democratic Nominee Debbie Mucarsel-Powell
This month, you'll hear more from me about the importance of each of these races (and a few House races right here in Oregon, too!), and I'll lay out the state of the race and what's at stake.
So let's all help build a strong foundation to back our candidates up throughout this month. We've only got a small two-seat majority (51-49) in the Senate, and with West Virginia's seat guaranteed to flip, we've got a tough, but winnable, course ahead.
Onward!
Jeff
