Right now, we are failing millions of women
Donald Trump's handpicked MAGA Supreme Court Justices overturned Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs decision, and ever since, we've been living in the dystopian, dangerous aftermath of a post-Roe world. The Trump Court has willfully created a health crisis.
This recent article paints a horrifying picture of the reality millions of women face.
Here's a graphic snippet from the article:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Bleeding and in pain, Kyleigh Thurman didn't know her doomed pregnancy could kill her.
Emergency room doctors at Ascension Seton Williamson in Texas handed her a pamphlet on miscarriage and told her to "let nature take its course" before discharging her without treatment for her ectopic pregnancy.
When the 25-year-old returned three days later, still bleeding, doctors finally agreed to give her an injection to end the pregnancy. It was too late. The fertilized egg growing on Thurman's fallopian tube ruptured it, destroying part of her reproductive system.
"I was left to flail," Thurman said. "It was nothing short of being misled."
The last thing we need in the exam room when making personal, intimate decisions about our bodies is judgmental politicians who want to dictate the outcome regardless of the health risks.
Right now, we are failing millions of women.
We are seeing in real time the very real consequences of taking away the right to safe and legal abortions. Across the country, MAGA Republicans have passed laws banning abortion, criminalizing providers, and restricting access to contraception.
More than 1 in 3 women in America currently live under some form of abortion ban. Women are waiting longer for life-saving care, being turned away from emergency rooms, and, in some cases, being forced to figure out how they can afford to travel hundreds of miles to get the reproductive care they need.
In Oregon, we've made it clear we will stand strong for the right to compassionate reproductive care. That's how it should be. The decision to have an abortion is one that should be made by you and only you – not by judges, not by MAGA politicians, and not by your ability to pay or the zip code you live in.
No matter where a woman lives in this country, she should have the right to access the full range of reproductive care.
That's why I'm focused on holding the Senate Democratic Majority and retaking the House in 2024 so we can enshrine abortion rights into federal law.
The right to bodily autonomy is a fundamental right. I won't stop fighting until we successfully restore access to abortion rights for all, and I know you won't either.
Onward!
