Reflecting on the upcoming holiday

As we approach the Fourth of July, I want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of the holiday and what it means to me.

Tomorrow, we'll celebrate our independence, our freedoms, and our country's beginning. But while we have come so far as a country, we must also recognize that there is still so much work to be done to achieve our founding promise to build a nation that provides justice for all – especially when it comes to defending our democracy.

My colleagues and I are elected to work for "We the People," and right now, that's harder than ever. With right-wing billionaires corrupting the Supreme Court, members of Congress writing bills while they trade on related stocks, corporate interests funneling millions in dark money into Super PACs to manipulate our elections, and MAGA extremism taking over the Republican party, the people's voice is being drowned out, and our democracy is at risk.

Donald Trump and his MAGA cronies are attacking our institutions nonstop and undermining democracy every chance they get. It's destructive to our country, and it sets a dangerous precedent for the future.

I'm doing everything I can to fight for our shared values in the face of these right-wing attacks.

This Fourth of July weekend, I'm asking you to recommit to standing alongside me. Together, we'll continue our work to overcome our challenges and build opportunity and freedom for all.

Onward!

Jeff
