Senators should understand the people they represent
I won my first race for the Oregon legislature as a complete unknown against two former state representatives by jogging house to house with flyers printed from my home computer. By knocking on doors, talking to families in their yards, and meeting people where they are, I heard their stories and concerns and shared my vision for the future.
As the son of a union millwright and the first person in my family to go to college, I know why it's so important to have representatives who will push back against the powerful and privileged and stand up for regular folks.
Here's the situation: The Republicans challenging our battleground Senate Democrats in Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin won't ever do that. Handpicked by Mitch McConnell and endorsed by Trump, they're extraordinarily out-of-touch multimillionaires, some of whom have barely lived in the state they want to represent, who have sworn loyalty oaths to the MAGA agenda and are using personal fortunes and the support of obscene amounts of dark money to try and buy our elections.
That's not who should ever be representing us in the Senate, and fortunately, we have fantastic Senate Democrats who understand and are connected to the people they represent.
Time and time again, they've delivered for ordinary Americans by reducing the costs of health care, fighting against corporate greed, and standing up to protect civil and voting rights. Whether it's third-generation dirt farmer and former teacher Jon Tester, former waitress and computer programmer Jacky Rosen, or former caregiver Tammy Baldwin, we must defend our Senate Democratic incumbents who never stop fighting for America's working families.
Right now, there are hundreds of elections across the country, and many of them are being dominated by right-wing money and wealthy special interests. It's time to challenge what's become the status quo to defend the Senate Democratic Majority.
That's where you and our motivated grassroots team come in. I deeply believe that in the face of gerrymandering, dark money and the wealthy buying our elections, and voter suppression, the key to progressive victories is out-hustling, out-organizing, and out-inspiring the other side. Democrats are doing just that.
Onward!
