Roe v. Wade Anniversary

Today is the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the monumental Supreme Court ruling that gave all Americans legal access to abortion.

Instead of celebrating, we're living with the disastrous aftermath of the 2022 ruling by the Court's conservative extremist majority in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. That decision demolished the constitutional right to an abortion and gave right-wing legislatures across the country the power to impose bans and severe restrictions that put people's lives at risk and punish doctors for providing abortion care.

Nobody wants a politician in the exam room telling a woman or her doctor what to do, especially when making complex decisions about reproductive healthcare.

Yet, that is exactly what the Supreme Court did. It gave legislators hell-bent on restricting access to reproductive health the power to dictate what should be a private medical decision. That's outrageous.

No matter where a woman lives in this country, she should have the right to access the full range of reproductive care.

To make sure that happens, I introduced the Women's Health Protection Act to enshrine abortion rights into federal law. But Republicans – and the filibuster – are standing in the way.

That's why I'm focused on holding the Senate Democratic Majority and retaking the House in 2024 so we can restore abortion access for all Americans.

The ability to control one's own body is a fundamental right. I won't stop fighting until we successfully restore access to abortion rights for all, and I know you won't either.

Onward!
