When the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade, a longstanding precedent, it raised a terrifying question: what other precedents, what other rights, might they overturn?
In his concurring opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas called on the Court to review its decision in Obergefell v. Hodges to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
We can't let that happen.
The House of Representatives has voted to codify marriage equality into federal law, no matter what the Supreme Court does. In fact, the Respect for Marriage Act passed with 47 Republican votes, in addition to every single Democrat.
Love is love, and every American should have the right to marry the person they love.
Soon, I hope, the U.S. Senate will take up the Respect for Marriage Act. And I'm determined to pass it.
I'm not giving up this fight until the guarantee of marriage equality in Obergefell is backed up by a guarantee under federal law.
Onward!
