Social Security is a ticking time bomb. With the massive Baby Boom entering retirement, we've known for decades that Congress would have to act to ensure that benefits continue to be paid to all who've earned them – and ensure Social Security's solvency in the years ahead.
MAGA Republicans think gutting the social safety net, cutting benefits, and raising the age of retirement is the way to go. NO WAY.
Senator Bernie Sanders, Congressman Peter DeFazio and I are teaming up with progressive reformers in Congress to fund Social Security for 70 more years. We'll raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share – and give seniors a boost in their benefits.

The fight about fixing Social Security has come down to two options:
Draconian measures proposed by MAGA Republicans that would cut the benefits that America's seniors have earned – raising the retirement age, cutting benefits, and letting inflation erode the value of those benefits. The MAGA Republican plan leaves behind our seniors.
What Bernie, Peter, and I are proposing is simple, humane, and common sense:
First, require the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share in taxes. For the first time, we'll make incomes above $250,000 per year subject to Social Security taxes. It makes no fiscal or moral sense that the Social Security Trust Fund is financed mostly by the working and middle classes. 93% of Americans would see no tax increase at all.
Next, increase Social Security benefits by $200/month — and adopt a cost of living adjustment that includes the rapidly rising costs of health care and prescription drugs.
Our seniors have earned their Social Security benefits. And it's up to us to ensure that Social Security is around to pay those benefits — and that those benefits provide the security that our seniors have been promised.
