My meeting with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
Earlier today, I sat down to chat with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
We spoke at length about some of the big issues facing America and how she would approach her role as Supreme Court Justice.
As we spoke, I was left with one unflinching impression: this woman is incredibly qualified, and not only brings a fresh perspective to the court, but also a deep commitment to justice.
Judge Jackson strikes me as a razor-sharp legal mind and as someone who has dedicated her life to service. From her time as a public defender, to her work on the US Sentencing Commission, and the last nine years as a federal judge, I walked away from our conversation confident that she will be an exceptional Supreme Court Justice.
Over the coming days, here are two things I hope for:
→ Fairness. Judge Jackson is a remarkable jurist whose insight, qualifications, intellect, and commitment to impartiality are exactly what we strive to see on our nation's highest court. She deserves a quick vote before the whole Senate.
→ Confirmation. I will be voting yes on Judge Jackson's nomination, and I urge my colleagues to do the same. Because, based on everything I have seen, she is a tremendously-qualified candidate and our Supreme Court—and our country—would benefit from her service.
I am eager for that next big historic moment when Judge Jackson is sworn in.
