disingenuous, insulting, condescending
Are you watching the confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson?
On the one hand, it's historic — the first Black woman to face a Supreme Court confirmation hearing.
On the other hand, it's been more of the same old nonsense from some of my colleagues — asking her about everything but her qualifications and views on the Constitution.
They've spent hours whining about decades-old confirmation hearings. They've given her disingenuous, condescending lectures. They've badgered her repeatedly about political controversies that have nothing to do with being a judge.
They are making a mockery of the serious work of a confirmation hearing, while Judge Jackson has answered every question with the deftness and wisdom we should expect from a future Supreme Court Justice.
President Biden has nominated and the Senate has confirmed dozens and dozens of highly-qualified federal judges who are reshaping our courts in powerful and profound ways.
But if we lose the Senate, you know what happens next: The march of progress stops.
