Sign the petition: ban members of Congress from trading stocks
Can you believe that to this day members of Congress are able to trade stocks while writing laws that affect the value of those stocks? It's a fabulously unacceptable conflict of interest and we have to stop it.
Remember former Rep. Tom Price, who bought and sold biotech and pharmaceutical stocks while writing laws that would impact health care regulations as a member of the exclusive health care subcommittee?
Or what about the Senators who got closed-door briefings about the looming coronavirus pandemic right before it exploded and sold stocks— did they make trades based on information the public didn't have?
We should never need to ask that question! We should always know that members of Congress are working for the public, not for their portfolios.
That's why I'm asking you to sign a petition banning members of Congress from trading stocks. Sign here to say that members of Congress shouldn't be allowed to trade stocks while in office.
When members of Congress own stocks, the conflict of interest is inevitable. The American people should have confidence that when members of Congress act, it's to benefit the public, not to benefit their portfolios.
Sign my petition to ban our representatives from trading stocks while serving in public office.
