That's why I'm asking for your help defending my friend, Senator Maggie Hassan.
We were there when Maggie first won in 2016, defeating an incumbent Republican. That race was incredibly close, but so, so worth it.
Senator Hassan has become a powerful voice for reforming the filibuster and restoring the Senate. She was in there with me, rolling up her sleeves and trying to convince our last holdouts how important it was to end the secret, silent filibuster. She believes Senators owe Americans public debates. And when the debating is done, every Senator needs to stand up and be counted.
Now she's facing her first re-election, and lots of Republican challengers are coming out of the woodwork. There's the 2020 Republican nominee for Senate. There's a state senator. There's even a retired general who believes Donald Trump's big lie about the 2020 election. Republicans are grasping at straws to beat Maggie.
You can be sure that millions of dollars in donations from SuperPACs and other dark money sources are going to be spent against Maggie. And Maggie, despite the great amount of good she's done for New Hampshire, will be in for the fight of her life. She is counting on us.
Having just run a marathon for my 65th birthday, I've learned a few things about pacing. But this isn't just a long race to November: it's also a quick sprint right now to show that we're committed to protecting a key fighter for our values.
