I went to Georgia with President Biden & VP Harris
Yesterday, I was in Georgia with President Biden and Vice President Harris.
I can tell you, it was cool to fly on Air Force One, but what made the trip for me was hearing just how fired up President Biden is about finally reforming the filibuster and passing voting rights.
The threat to our democracy is so grave that we must find a way to pass these voting rights bills, debate them, vote.
Let the majority prevail. And if that bare minimum is blocked, we have no option but to change the Senate rules, including getting rid of the filibuster for this. ...
State legislatures can pass anti-voting laws with simple majorities. If they can do that, then the United States Senate should be able to protect voting rights by a simple majority.
Today I'm making it clear: To protect our democracy, I support changing the Senate rules, whichever way they need to be changed to prevent a minority of senators from blocking action on voting rights.
President Biden made it clear, both in his speech and in our private conversation on the plane: he is with us. Vice President Harris is with us. Many, many Senators who have opposed filibuster reform for years are now with us.
As the President also said, every Senator now faces a choice, not just for the moment but for the ages. Let's make sure they know that We the People are watching, and the People expect Senators to stand with Dr. King, with John Lewis, for the right of every single American citizen to have an equal chance to cast their vote and have that vote counted!
Here's what I need from you: Please sign our petition telling the whole Senate – all 100 Democrats and Republicans – that it's time to reform the filibuster and (finally) pass a voting rights and election protection bill.
