Our (not very) secret plan to fight inflation

I'm going to make a confession.

I'm as frustrated as you are that we Democrats seem unable to communicate clearly to the American people when we're doing big things to help.

At a time when American families are worried about inflation—about the rising cost of everything—it sometimes feels like no one is hearing the message.

Well, just in time for that awkward family conversation at Thanksgiving, let me tell you EXACTLY what we're going to do about inflation — what we're going to do to lower the cost of living for every American family.

We're going to pass President Biden's Build Back Better plan.

The plan we've been talking about all year is exactly the plan to tackle this big problem. Here's what it's in the Build Back Better plan:

📉 Lower costs of prescription drugs. We'll let Medicare negotiate lower drug prices. We'll guarantee that no senior ever pays more than $2000/year for drugs under Medicare Part D. And we'll impose tax penalties on drug companies whose prices go up faster than inflation.

📉 Lower the cost of health care. For 9 million Americans, we'll lower the cost of health care premiums by an average of $600 per person per year. We'll expand Medicare to include benefits for hearing loss. And we'll expand Medicaid to 4 million Americans who live in states that have refused to offer expanded zero-cost health care.

📉 Lower the cost of at-home care for seniors and people with disabilities. We will finally provide at-home care for the over 800,000 Americans who are on waiting lists for Medicaid coverage for at-home care.

📉 Lower the cost of housing. We'll make the largest investment in affordable housing in history — adding 1 million affordable homes across the country; reducing upward price pressure for millions more.

📉 Free preschool for all 3- and 4-year olds. Preschool costs an average of $8600/year. We'll expand free preschool to more than 6 million children.

📉 Lower the cost of child care. No family will pay more than 7% of their income on child care. That means thousands of dollars in savings to most families.

📉 Lower taxes for families with children. 90% of families with children will get a $250 to $300/month tax credit per child, as a monthly payment, to help pay for clothes, education, activities, and other expenses.

📉 Lower the cost of school lunches. We'll expand free school lunches and breakfasts to 8.7 million children and provide a $65/month food benefit to 29 million children during the summer months.

📉 Lower the cost of college. We'll increase the Pell Grant by $550 for 5 million students.

📉 Lower the cost of clean energy. We'll expand rebates and credits for adding rooftop solar power and buying American-made, union-made electric vehicles.

📉 More money in the pockets of lower wage workers. We'll triple the earned income tax credit for 17 million lower wage workers, pulling millions of workers out of poverty.

All told, President Biden's Build Back Better plan lowers folks' cost of living by thousands of dollars, delivers health care to millions of Americans, and creates thousands of new, good-paying jobs.

And you know what? It's all paid for. We're not adding to the national debt. It's paid for by imposing a 15% on corporations that ship jobs and profits overseas; by raising taxes on incomes of over $10 million/year; and by cracking down on tax evasion by the top 1% of income earners (who cheat to the tune of $160 billion per year in unpaid taxes.)

So, when that uncle (you know the one) starts repeating Fox News talking points at the Thanksgiving dinner table, pull this email out and let him know what the Democrats are doing to fight inflation and cut the cost of living in America. It really is that simple.
