Turn on the cameras. Make them stand there & explain:
The John Lewis Voting Rights Act? Derailed by another ridiculous, no-show, no-effort filibuster.
Mitch McConnell silently raises a finger, and any chance we have of reasonable debate in the Senate over this crucial voter protection law is shut down.
They say democracy dies in the darkness. I say, let's shine a light on this problem. Will you sign my petition demanding filibuster reform?
I believe that the John Lewis Voting Rights Act would become law if our opponents were forced to stand before the American people, with an actual talking filibuster, and explain why they were stopping all Senate business to derail discussion on it.
Turn the cameras on in the Senate. Make them stand there all night and weekend and explain how the John Lewis Voting Rights Act is a bad idea. Make them talk and talk and talk until they've had their say. And then let's have a vote.
Let them feel the pressure as the American people watch. Let them be held accountable for their inaction, for their extreme positions.
We have all been sent to Washington D.C. to get work done—to debate the issues and vote. Not sit on our hands while the minority scores cheap political points by silently obstructing any and all reasonable progress.
Reforming the filibuster is crucial, as is spotlighting the absurdity of what's happening in the Senate right now. Sign my petition and let's build the grassroots pressure for filibuster reform.
It's time to get it done.
