I’m holding the line. We can’t miss this opportunity

I want to be blunt with you.

American families are hurting. The pandemic laid bare just how many millions of families are just one paycheck or one illness away from financial ruin. It laid bare just how dependent our economy is on our child care system and our health care system. And the pandemic showed us that crossing our fingers and hoping a crisis never comes is not a substitute for taking action now to prevent devastation.

We must make critical investments to turn the tide on the climate crisis. We must make sure Americans have access to affordable health care and child care to ensure our economy gets back on track. And we must restore fairness in our economy, ensuring the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share so working families have opportunities to get ahead.

ALL of this and more is in the legislation that would implement President Biden's Build Back Better plan. Congress made a deal that that bill would move in tandem with the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

But now there is a HUGE amount of pressure being brought to bear on the House to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill — and then abandon or water down the investments in America's working families.

I will not do that.

I've joined ten other Senators in supporting the Congressional Progressive Caucus in their position that the House must not pass the infrastructure bill until the Build Back Better Act passes.

A deal is a deal.

But more importantly, the American people are counting on us to do the right thing. And that's what we're going to do.
