What happened this week on the filibuster
Like you, I'm impatient for change. We need to act boldly to invest in American infrastructure and tackle the climate crisis, to restore voting rights and protect democracy.
I'm impatient, but we are making progress. Not as fast or as boldly as I'd like, but we are moving forward. Here's the latest:
On Wednesday, we won 67 votes to move forward on the first installment of an infrastructure plan. That bipartisan deal is not enough and will be followed by the reconciliation process to move a much bigger bill — not subject to a Republican filibuster — to tackle the climate crisis and invest in families, but the bipartisan bill contains some important provisions and gets the process on track.
I also spent time this week huddled with Senators Joe Manchin, Raphael Warnock, Amy Klobuchar, Alex Padilla, and Chuck Schumer working to find a way forward on voting rights, election protection, and gerrymandering. More on that later.
But here's the thing. Even this amount of progress will be impossible if we go backwards and lose the House or the Senate in 2022.
Wouldn't it be much better if we can win bigger, stronger, more progressive majorities in 2022? The tide of history is against us. But I know we've got the fight in us to defy history.
With your help I know we will be victorious in the end!
Onward!
