This sentence stood out to me, and I want to share it with you
57 years ago, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial before a crowd of over 250,000 people and called for an end to racism in America.
Dr. King dreamed of a world where each of us would be judged not by the color of our skin but by the content of our character.
Some days, that dream seems farther away than ever. But when I see a new generation of civil rights activists stand up, peacefully take to the streets, and demand change, I am hopeful.
I am also hopeful because the man who preaches from Dr. King's pulpit today is running for the U.S. Senate. With our help, Rev. Raphael Warnock will win. And he will make an extraordinary Senator for Georgia.
Recently, he sent a note to his supporters, the grassroots movement behind his U.S. Senate run in Georgia.
One sentence stood out to me. I want to share it with you:
The opportunities that made my journey possible... are growing further and further out of reach for too many people across this country. It's unjust, and I'm running for Senate to change that.
In the blue-collar community where I grew up, my friends and I benefited from many of those opportunities, including affordable homes, good public schools, and honest pay for honest work. This road is getting hard to find for hard-working Americans across our land, and we have to do something about it.
Because that's the American dream: being able to leave things just a little bit better than we found them, giving our children a little bit more than we had. Being good neighbors, good partners, and good citizens of the world.
Unfortunately, that dream is under fierce attack. Even before the coronavirus pandemic, Donald Trump and Republicans in Washington D.C. wanted to take away your health care, sacrifice your opportunity so the ultra-wealthy could make even more money, and leave America more isolated and weaker than it's ever been.
And now, with America leading the world in coronavirus infections and deaths, their plan remains indifference and inaction. It's horrific.
That has to change. Starting with winning in Georgia and taking back the Senate. We need to make sure that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have all the support they need to get the job done.
Join me in this effort. Let's put his grassroots movement over the top. Donate today.
