Shemia is running for Secretary of State because she knows what it's like to be hanging on by a thread. Growing up poor in rural Oregon, Shemia didn't feel like government was within reach. It was a school teacher who changed her life – just like my second-grade teacher changed mine.

As a legislator, Shemia has worked to bring opportunity within reach for every Oregonian, and she's leading the way on bringing our democracy within reach too. She has led the way on expanding access to voting in Oregon, and will make sure that families who lost their jobs to COVID and are struggling like she did quickly get the unemployment assistance they deserve. Shemia will make sure Oregon's tax dollars are going where they're supposed to: funding our public schools, our small businesses and Oregonians who need them the most.
